Everton have recently been linked with signing Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko and the former Manchester City man could be a big upgrade on Dominic Calvert Lewin at Goodison Park.

It was reported earlier this month that Everton were among a number of Premier League sides said to be inserted in the Bosnian forward, who could be allowed to leave Inter despite an impressive debut season with the club.

The veteran striker has enjoyed a prolific career in Germany, England and Italy, starring for Manchester City before earning a move to Roma, for whom he crashed in 118 goals in 257 games before his move to Milan.

During his time with Roma, former manager Eusebio Di Francesco sang Dzeko's praises, saying: "I must say, he's an extraordinary player, and not just in terms of his finishing – he gets the team playing, brings the ball down and produces good service for his teammates. He's a fantastic professional, his pre-match preparations are always spot-on."

The 36-year-old managed 17 goals and 10 assists in 48 appearances for I Nerazzurri last season, so could add a lot of quality to Lampard's frontline at Everton, especially after the departure of Richarlison.

If he were to arrive at Goodison Park, he would arguably be a better option up front than the injury-prone Calvert-Lewin, who managed just five goals in 17 Premier League appearances following an injury-hit campaign.

The former Sheffield United man had hit 16 goals in the previous campaign and there was a lot of hope that he would continue his fine form last season, but injuries and Everton's poor form meant that he struggled to have any real impact, other than his winning goal against Crystal Palace to seal the Toffees' place in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Not only has Dzeko proved himself to be a much more consistent goalscorer than Calvert-Lewin but his build-up play is better too, as WhoScored suggests that his strengths include holding onto the ball, which is a weakness of the Everton forward.

Therefore, Kevin Thelwell should definitely consider bringing the Bosnian in this summer, as attacking upgrades are a must if Everton are to improve on last season.
