Frank Lampard arguably faces the most important spell of his brief managerial career to date as the summer transfer window could make or break Everton’s season before it even begins.
Getting rid of some deadwood would be a great start and then focussing on bringing in genuine quality so the Toffees don’t end up anywhere near the relegation places would go a long way to getting the supporters onside.
With the James Tarkowski deal all but sealed and waiting for an announcement, there have been plenty of others linked with the club.
One name that has been touted recently is that of Emmanuel Dennis, the Watford striker, with Everton looking to add some quality to their stagnating attacking options, it could be a wise move.
It is unlikely that Dennis will be staying with recently relegated Watford and with the club valuing him at around £20m, then it’s a deal that makes perfect sense for Lampard.
Richarlison was the top scorer from the Everton frontline last season with a measly total of 11 goals. Dennis netted ten in the Premier League, whilst also registering six assists, proving he is more than just a goal scorer.
The striker recently scored for Nigeria in their 10-0 rout over Sao Tome and Principe and his stock has arguably never been higher.
He could work well with Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as it looks increasingly likely that Brazilian Richarlison is edging closer to the exit door, with Tottenham hotspur leading the race.
This sale will provide the funds for Lampard to go after players such as Dennis who combined with the aforementioned Calvert-Lewin, could create a dominative attacking duo that sends the Toffees soaring up the table in the new campaign.
Former Watford manager Claudio Ranieri sang his praises when the two worked together, describing him as “very talented” and there seems to be no limit to where the Nigeria international could end up.
It might not only be a good move on the pitch, but with the player yet to hit his peak years, the opportunity to make the club a serious profit could prove to be a gamechanger.
