According to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, Everton have been holding discussions with the Watford forward’s agent, Drew Uyi.
As per a report written by Taylor, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Southampton have also held talks with the player’s representatives, but so far none of the Premier League clubs have made a concrete offer.
Frank Lampard was already in dire need of reinforcements in the squad following a relegation scrap in the Premier League last season, but now with Richarlison making a move to Tottenham Hotspur, the urgency to sign talent is at an all-time high at Goodison Park.
The Brazilian winger was the Toffees’ top goal-scorer last season, so finding a player that can replace his contribution to the forward line is essential if the club want to stand any chance of competing for a more comfortable position in the top-flight when they return to action next week.
As a result, Dennis could be the perfect solution to Lampard’s weakened attack, and he could even form a formidable duo with Dominic Calvert-Lewin if the Toffees striker can have a better season in terms of fitness.
Over 33 Premier League appearances, the Nigerian attacker scored 10 goals, delivered six assists and created seven big chances, making one key pass, 1.5 tackles and winning 6.2 duels per game, but it’s not just his great statistics that would have caught Everton’s eye.
Dennis is capable of playing several positions including across the front three roles just like Richarlison, which would be a hugely valuable attribute for Lampard as he navigates the best way to get the best out of his team going forward.
The Watford dynamo who has a reported price tag of £25m, has been the recipient of high praise with his former manager Claudio Ranieri hailing Dennis “very talented” in an interview with the club’s website:
“[Dennis] is a very talented player. He’s fast, has good skill, always runs straight to the goal – I love these kinds of players.”
With that being said, the signing of the Watford goal machine could be the answer to the Richarlison-shaped hole in Everton’s squad right now, and director of football Kevin Thelwell must do everything he can to seal a deal for the player over other Premier League clubs this summer.
