Everton have only made one signing so far this summer with James Tarkowski joining the squad, and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on a transfer target.
Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed a new update on Everton transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly.
Romano tweeted this morning:
“Chelsea are prepared to submit the final, official bid for Kalidou Koulibaly: €38m plus add-ons, up to €40m package. Napoli could accept, after opening proposal worth €35m turned down.
“Koulibaly agreed personal terms – while Chelsea are also working on Nathan Aké.”
Everton have been linked with a move for the defender for over a year now, and even submitted a bid for the £32m player last summer.
It is no secret that Everton have been struggling, something that became painfully obvious for supporters over last season when the side endured a Premier League relegation scrap, only surviving in the penultimate game of the season.
There is a desperate need for reinforcements and players who can make a high-quality impact in the team, so Everton supporters will surely be gutted that they are about to miss out on the signing of a long-term transfer target in Koulibaly.
The Napoli centre-back has been a key player in the Serie A for this side and has proven he has the ability and talent to be a fantastic addition to any team.
Over 27 league appearances, Koulibaly scored three goals, delivered three assists and created two big chances. From a defensive standpoint, he was incredibly impressive, making 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels (61%).
The defender’s eye-catching defensive and attacking qualities would have been massively advantageous to Frank Lampard who is looking for ways to improve his side to ensure they don’t find themselves in a battle at the bottom of the table again, so it will surely be frustrating for the manager that Koulibaly will make a move to another club.
With that being said, Farhad Moshiri will need to learn a lesson from missing out on Koulibaly this summer and start to commit to making serious offers for transfer targets to avoid losing out on another player that could make a great impact on the team next term.
