Everton have had the spotlight firmly on their club this transfer window, with two signings made in the first week of the window and a frenzy of speculation surrounding Lucas Digne's future at the club, and now Rafa Benitez is said to be making moves for his third signing of the month.

What's the word?

Fabrizio Romano took to his Twitter account last night to drop a huge twist in the unfolding story of Digne's future at his current club and added the potential of a player making a move to Goodison Park this January.

The Italian transfer insider tweeted:

"Aston Villa have been working for days to sign Lucas Digne. They've always been frontrunners - Chelsea out of the race.

"Talks on, not 100% agreed yet between clubs. El Ghazi also been discussed - nothing agreed on this point as Everton want cash. Next week will be key."

Benitez has made it clear that the French left back wants to leave Everton, with a number of Premier League clubs claiming their interest in the player over the last month, and now it appears that the Spanish manager will be capitalising on Villa's interest by attempting to secure Anwar El Ghazi in return.

Fans will be buzzing

After the Everton manager revealed that Digne has claimed he wants to leave the club, it appears there isn't much left Benitez or the owners to do but to move on and look forward to making the right decisions to take Everton out of their struggle in the last five months of the season.

The side are having a less than satisfactory start to the season, with just five wins in the Premier League and as a result, have found themselves 15th, just six points outside of the drop zone, and the club and manager will need to find ways to better their chances to get back into the top half to meet the expectations when the season ends.

Adding a new attacking threat like Aston Villa winger, El Ghazi, could be a great way to inject more creativity in the side. It would allow Everton to kill games off earlier, turning draws and losses into winning opportunities that will help the Toffees climb the table, an eventuality that would ultimately leave fans buzzing.

Despite lacking in game time this season so far, the Dutchman has scored three goals and bagged three assists in 11 appearances so far, offering up 26 goals and 16 assists over the last two and a half years at Aston Villa.

This consistent goal contribution is a much needed attribute at Goodison Park right now, where they have conceded more goals than they have scored.

There is currently no further development or links to a move or a deal with Aston Villa that could send Digne to the Birmingham club and in return, offer El Ghazi a move to Merseyside, but we're sure Benitez will be working hard to build a deal that benefits his plans for Everton too, which could also soften the blow of Digne's departure to the fans.
