Everton could look to the January transfer window to further strengthen the squad over the second half of the season after a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign.

The Toffees are currently 17th in the league table after a string of poor performances and Frank Lampard will surely be searching for solutions to improve the attacking prowess of the team as they have second the joint-second fewest goals in the entire top flight so far.

There is no doubt that Everton's plight over the last 18 months can be blamed to an extent on the injury crisis they have suffered - the club had the worst injury record in the entire Premier League last season, an issue that has leaked into the current campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered numerous injury issues that have ensured the Everton striker has been unavailable to feature in the majority of the team's fixtures in the past year, with only 24 appearances tallied up since the start of the 2021/22 season.

More recently, James Garner has joined the injury table with a back injury that is set to leave him sidelined until the beginning of February and with Abdoulaye Doucoure linked with a move away from the club in January it could be the perfect opportunity to bolster the depth in the centre of the pitch.

One midfielder who has been touted for a move to Goodison Park is Birmingham City youngster George Hall, a player who could be Frank Lampard's next youth prodigy.

The former Chelsea boss is renowned for his keen eye for youth talent and for introducing some of the Premier League's biggest stars to senior football with Reece James, Tariq Lamptey, Armando Broja, Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour just some of the players Lampard handed debuts to during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Hall earned his senior debut for Birmingham City this January after impressing former manager Lee Bowyer in the youth set-up and has now found himself a consistent feature in the first team.

Over 18 Championship appearances, the 18-year-old has scored one goal, registered one assist and created two big chances, as well as winning 1.3 duels per game.

The talented teenager has drawn high praise for his development so far, with City's U18s Lead Coach Martyn Olorenshaw hailing Hall in a glowing assessment:

“He is an attacking midfielder with an ability to create and score goals. He is explosive, dynamic and has the prowess to influence games. He is a really exciting player that has the ceiling to achieve whatever he wants to achieve."

Lampard could even land his very own Jude Bellingham with the young midfielder already drawing comparisons to the Borussia Dortmund superstar.

Just like Bellingham, Hall has made his name by rising through the ranks at Birmingham City and takes an attacking-minded and hard-working approach to his game with the self-proclamation that he is a "box to box midfielder" and likes to "create goals" - something the England midfielder is renowned for both at club level and on the international stage.

If Hall could get a move to Everton it could be an opportunity to strengthen and polish his skills under a manager who is famed for his impressive career as an attacking midfielder in the Premier League.

With that being said, the signing of Hall would be a great piece of business for Everton and if they could convince Birmingham to part ways with their youth talent in the new year it could be the perfect signing to bolster the central roles over the remainder of the current campaign.
