Everton: Lampard must finally get rid of Rondon

Everton are enjoying a much-improved start to their Premier League campaign compared to last season’s struggles and recruitment has played a big role with eight new signings, but there is one player who could be set for an exit from Goodison Park sooner rather than later.

What’s the latest?

According to journalist Simon Phillips, out-of-favour Everton striker, Salomon Rondon could be sold in January.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT:

“He’s pretty surplus to requirements under Frank Lampard.

“You could see it, even when they were short on numbers in attack last season and this season, Rondon was rarely called upon, only for some minutes at the end of the game.

“His future is clear, they’re going to get rid of him in January.”

It’s time to go

Everton’s endeavour to buy a new striker in the summer following Richarlison’s exit and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems was the first clear indication that Rondon is not a player that is trusted by Lampard or a player that is in the future plans for the Toffees.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion centre forward Neal Maupay joined the side towards the end of the transfer window making the Everton boss’ stance concrete on Rondon, and now new reports have suggested that the player has rejected a move to the United Arab Emirates ahead of their transfer deadline on the 7th October.

Lampard has wasted no time in getting rid of the deadwood in the team with a number of players including Andre Gomes, Allan, Cenk Tosun and Fabian Delph all making an exit from Merseyside this summer, and Rondon is looking like the next player to be given the boot.

The Venezuelan striker who was dubbed “terrible” by podcaster Lee McClean joined the club under the management of Rafa Benitez but has struggled to make his mark in the central role of the forward line at Goodison Park, with just three goals and one assist over 29 appearances.

In fact, Rondon only scored one Premier League goal last season and hasn’t scored again since December 2021 which would have been incredibly frustrating for Lampard during Everton’s relegation battle.

Firstly, where did Everton finish in the Premier League?

That said, the final nail in the coffin for the 33-year-old may have come against Brentford in the third from last game of the season when the Toffees hadn’t secured survival.

The striker was brought onto the pitch in the 84th minute to find the third and final goal to steal a point in the 3-2 defeat to the Bees, instead Rondon made an unnecessary challenge and was sent off just four minutes later at a massively crucial moment in time.

With that being said, Lampard must finally find a way to ditch Rondon and January could be a great opportunity to relieve the forward of his duties on Merseyside and an opportunity to get the £28k-per-week dud off the wage bill.
