Everton could land the new Thierry Henry in Cody Gakpo

Deadline day may be looming yet it would appear that Everton could still be set to secure further incomings before the window is out, having already wrapped up six major deals so far this summer.

One player who has reportedly been the subject of interest from the Toffees of late is PSV Eindhoven winger, Cody Gakpo, with the Dutchman having caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs following his sparkling form in Holland.

The 23-year-old had long been linked with a move to Manchester United – although that appears to have cooled amid the capture of Ajax’s Antony – while Southampton are also said to have made a £21m bid in recent days.

The Merseysiders could well pounce to poach the impressive forward ahead of the Saints, however, with the latest reports suggesting that the Netherlands international could be available for a fee of around £25m.

That could represent a relative bargain for a player who has been prolific for his current side of late, having scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists in 47 games in all competitions last season.

At Goodison Park, by contrast, the highest scoring player last season was Richarlison – who has since joined Tottenham Hotspur on a £60m deal – with just 11 goals across all fronts, while the Brazilian also led the way with just five assists in total, alongside Demarai Gray.

Gakpo has also started the new season on fire with ten goal contributions in just eight games thus far, taking his overall tally at the Dutch outfit to 46 goals and 39 assists in 143 games in all competitions.

Dubbed a player that “has everything” by compatriot Theo Janssen, it will also be of interest to Lampard and co to know that the £27m-rated starlet has also been likened to Arsenal and footballing legend Thierry Henry, with both men arguably at their best when operating in that left channel – be it as a centre-forward or winger.

That is some praise considering the stellar career that the Frenchman enjoyed – particularly during his time in north London – having scored 175 goals and laid on 74 assists in just 258 top-flight games for the Gunners in what was a glittering, trophy-laden spell under Arsene Wenger.

Everton's Richarlison celebrates scoring their first goal

Firstly, where did Everton finish in the Premier League?

The leading goalscorer in Arsenal’s history, the now-retired menace ran defences ragged throughout his stint in English football, possessing that devastating mix of lethal pace and frightening composure in front of goal.

Lauded as the best Premier League player of all time by some, the World Cup winner was a true genius in his pomp, hence the possible intrigue at the chance of landing a Henry-esque figure in the form of Gakpo.

While there is hefty interest in the latter man at present, Lampard and co must surely do all they can to add the seven-cap sensation to their ranks in the coming days.
