Everton join the race to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney

Everton have made five signings over the summer so far and with just over a week remaining there is still work to be done at Goodison Park as an exciting transfer target is revealed.

What’s the latest?

According to The Mirror, Everton have joined the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

As per the report, the Toffees will have fierce competition to secure the centre forward’s signature this summer with Manchester United and Chelsea also interested.

It’s believed Frank Lampard’s men are weighing up a move.

It could save Everton’s season

The desperation for a new striker is growing at Goodison Park as every single remaining day of the transfer window passes, with the side only picking up one point in their Premier League campaign so far.

Lampard will no doubt be getting frustrated with the number of points already dropped due to their glaringly obvious lack of finishing ability in the team, with 42 shots taken over the last three games but only two of those being converted.

With that in mind, the signing of Toney could be one that saves their season if a deal can be completed ahead of their rivals, as the striker has had no trouble finding the back at the net with Brentford.

Over 92 appearances for the Bees, the £40m-valued striker who was dubbed “special” by Thomas Frank has scored 49 goals and delivered 18 assists, with a goal contribution every 115 minutes so far. Last season he proved he is more than capable of being a reliable Premier League forward too.

Toney scored 12 times, delivered five assists and created a whopping ten big chances. That was alongside taking 2.7 shots per game over 33 league appearances, proving that he is not only a prolific goalscorer but also a creative team player.

Should Everton sign Ivan Toney?

Just like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Brentford phenomenon likes to win the ball high with Toney winning 4.5 aerial duels per game and ranking in the top 15% of his positional peers in the top five European leagues for aerial duels won, alongside the current Toffees striker who ranks in the top 5% over the last 12 months.

With that being said, Toney would be the perfect replacement and competitor for the Everton centre-forward role at Goodison Park, with his goals very much the rescue act the Toffees are in need of to save what is already looking like another dismal campaign.
