Everton submit enquiry for Joao Pedro

Everton have already made five signings this summer but are looking likely to make a sixth with a striker signing desperately needed at Goodison Park, and now a reliable source has revealed a new potential transfer target.

What’s the latest?

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Everton have submitted an “enquiry” about Watford forward Joao Pedro.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT:

“Dharmesh [Sheth] has just text me saying that Everton have made an enquiry. An enquiry rather than a bid for Pedro.

“They’ve been made aware of what Newcastle’s offer is. There’s currently no official offer from Everton, but they’ve enquired as to what Newcastle are paying.”

Moshiri must act fast

With just eight days left to find the perfect striker to cover Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s absence in the team and Newcastle United also keen on Pedro, there is no doubt that Farhad Moshiri must act fast in ramping up interest in the player.

The Brazilian forward has been capturing the attention of Premier League club’s after his current side were relegated from the top-flight at the end of last season.

Pedro could not only be a reliable cover to stand in for Calvert-Lewin whilst he recovers from his injury, he could also offer a different style of striker to Frank Lampard as the manager continues to determine what will be the right approach to get the best out of his squad at Goodison Park who currently remain winless in the Premier League.

Despite playing the majority of his football in the centre-forward role Pedro who was hailed a “monster” by journalist Sam Streets, has also been seen effectively occupying the left winger role too, due to his versatility in positioning he could give the Everton boss a lot more depth in his forward-line even when Calvert-Lewin returns.

The 20-year-old who has scored 14 goals for Watford over 78 appearances, ranked in the top 5% of his positional peers for dribbles completed, interceptions and blocks and in the top 15% for progressive passes, carries and tackles, proving that despite being a young talent he is fearless and confident in taking on his opponents in the attacking third.

So far this season in the Championship, Pedro has taken a starring role in the centre-forward position at Watford following Dennis’ exit and is already displaying that he has the quality to make a swift return to the Premier League.

Over four appearances, Pedro has scored one goal, created two big chances, took 1.8 shots and made 1.3 key passes per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels and has been successful in completing 52% of his dribbles, thus playing a key role in Watford’s current unbeaten run in the second tier.

As a result, Moshiri must find the £30m to match Newcastle’s latest offer for Pedro, as sealing a deal for the 20-year-old could be more than just an injury stop-gap, but an important signing for the future of the Toffees forward-line.
