Everton have appointed Frank Lampard in hope that he will be able to guide them into a safer position following an abysmal season so far for the Toffees, with the ex-Chelsea boss already making his mark on the team with two Deadline Day signings.

Donny Van de Beek and Dele Alli were signed on the same day that Lampard was announced as the successor of Rafa Benitez after the Spaniard was sacked following a string of poor performances that had left Everton in a position that could lead them into a relegation battle in the remaining months of the season.

Van de Beek has already made his mark on the team with an outstanding performance against Leeds United, which led to a 3-0 victory against Leeds United in the new manager's first Premier League fixture at Goodison Park, providing Everton fans with a glimmer of hope that the season can be saved and the side can avoid relegation.

However, Alli is yet to make an individual impact on the side worth talking about, with the 25-year-old failing to make a starting lineup as of yet, but has been substituted on, gaining 83 minutes of game time over the two Premier League games so far.

Whilst the Dutchman is not set to stay with the Toffees long term, the Englishman is committed to a permanent deal with the Toffees, and finding the right players to work alongside him in Lampard's era at the club is something the manager is clearly looking into, as the side have been linked with Anderlecht midfielder, Sergio Gomez.

According to SofaScore, the 21-year-old is the highest-rated player in the Belgian side (7.43) and in 27 appearances for the side he has scored five league goals and bagged an impressive ten assists, whilst creating 12 big chances, offering 1.8 key passes per game and winning the majority of both his aerial and ground duels (54%).

If these statistics are anything to go by it is no wonder that the Toffees are linked to signing Gomez, who "gives everything" according to ex-City defender Vincent Kompany, and his output combined with a player of Alli's experience could form a formidable attacking duo that could dominate in Lampard's side going forward.

The 43-year-old boss will surely already be working on what needs to be done at the club to ensure they are never in the position they have been in this season again, adding young players like 21-year-old Gomez is exactly the kind of development we have seen Lampard make at both Chelsea and Derby County during his managerial career, so it won't be surprising if we see more youthful players being brought into the club over the summer.
