Everton: Kaveh Solhekol drops Vitor Pereira claim

Farhad Moshiri is interested in the possibility of appointing Vitor Pereira as his next Everton manager.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Kaveh Solhekol, with the Sky Sports journalist revealing on The Transfer Show that the Everton owner is once again considering a move for the 53-year-old coach, who was linked with a move to Goodison Park before the Toffees ultimately appointed Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking about the club’s interest in the Portuguese manager, the transfer insider said: “Another name being considered by the Everton owner is the former Porto and Fenerbahce manager Vitor Pereira, who was in the running to become the Everton manager before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed.”

Fans should be worried

While it is true that Pereira has experienced a great deal of success in his managerial career, whether or not the 53-year-old would be an appointment who could take Everton forwards is very much up for debate.

Indeed, during his time at Porto between 2011-2013, Pereira led the Portuguese side to the Liga Portugal Bwin title and lifted the domestic Super Cup in consecutive seasons, with the second of these campaigns seeing the Dragons remain undefeated under the leadership of the former SC Braga defensive midfielder.

The coach also went on to lift the Super League Greece and the Greek Cup during his season-long spell at Olympiacos Piraeus, as well as winning the Chinese Super League and the Chinese Super Cup over his three seasons with Shanghai SIPG.

However, the latest of these league wins came back in 2018, with the 53-year-old returning to Fenerbahce at the beginning of the current campaign and being sacked just 17 games into the season following a run of poor results.

So, while it is undeniable that Pereira has a history of winning behind him, the fact that the manager has never been handed a job in any of Europe’s big five leagues will undoubtedly be a worry for Everton fans, as, in order for the Toffees to get back to where they belong in the top half of the Premier League standings, they will certainly require a coach with at least some experience at the very top level of the game – something which Pereira categorically does not have.
