Everton are reportedly set to make a bid to sign Burnley attacker Maxwell Cornet this summer.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, the Merseyside club are preparing to make a bid to sign the player on a permanent deal after their initial offer for a loan was turned away by Burnley.

The report also adds that Everton's director of football, Kevin Thelwell, had skipped the club's US tour to accelerate the club's transfer activity, including securing a move for Cornet, who Frank Lampard is reportedly a big fan of.

In fact, on the subject of the attacker's future at Turf Moor, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany recently revealed that the club may have to prepare for life without the Ivorian.

A player who terrorised Pickford

After making 252 senior appearances for his previous club, Olympique Lyon, in which he found the net 51 times and delivered 29 assists, the 25-year-old made his move to Burnley back in the previous summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of €15m (£12.9m).

Throughout his debut season at the Lancashire club, the winger scored nine goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances.

In fact, the Toffees got a clear showing of how much of an attacking danger he can be as Cornet scored a goal and provided an assist in Burnley's 3-2 win over Everton in April.

Specifically, the attacker ended up having two shots on target, making two key passes, and completing one successful dribble, which shows how much of a nuisance he was for the Everton players to come up against and how much he terrorised Toffees stopper Jordan Pickford.

With this in mind, it's safe to say that the Everton players would certainly prefer to have the winger on their side rather than face him as an opponent.

Previously hailed as a "massive talent" by journalist Robin Bairner on Twitter during his time with Lyon, the Burnley star has now proved how impressive he can be in England and how much of a useful asset he could be for Everton, especially now that Richarlison has left.

If the Toffees do end up making a permanent bid to the Clarets for their attacking star which then gets accepted, this will be great business from the club as it would certainly make the team stronger for next season.
