Barcelona are a team in a rebuild. Apart from the obvious transfer saga surrounding the future of Lionel Messi, the Catalans are also trying to get rid of the deadwood in the team and free up that astronomical wage bill.
One of the players who they are looking to move on in also Emerson. Their right-back is partly owned by Real Betis and has been playing his football there away from the Camp Nou.
And it seems that the defender has also been attracting some interest from the Premier League. However, according to a new report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already declined two offers for their player – one from AC Milan and one from Everton.
The Toffees wanted to take the defender on a two-year loan deal for a low sum and then include a mandatory purchase option in the region of €20m (£17.8m). The Rossoneri, on the other hand, proposed a straight-up transfer of around €20m (£17.8m) as well as a player plus cash offer too.
All of that was declined by the Catalans who want at least €32m (£28.6m) for their man.
Even though Barcelona are looking to sell quite a few of their players, heavyweights included, it seems that they won’t be an easy team to negotiate with. Carlo Ancelotti might have to roll up his sleeves if he is really to get this deal over the line.
The player wants to succeed at Barcelona but if that’s not an option, he’d prefer a club that can offer him European football.
At the moment, the Toffees seem short of money and will definitely have to up their offer if Ancelotti is serious about Emerson. The right-back has been a solid option for Real Betis and seems to be unwanted at the Camp Nou.
This could certainly give Everton an opening to bring him to England.
