Everton have been linked with a move for Viktor Gyokeres in recent days and now a new update has emerged on the club’s pursuit of the player with the opening of the January transfer window.

What’s the latest?

According to journalist Dean Jones, Everton could “go after” Gyokeres and Ben Brereton Diaz this month.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT:

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they go after both Gyökeres and Brereton Díaz at the same time to just see what becomes possible. I’m not sure they could do a deal for both of those players, but at least to know that they could get one through the door so they have some potential for goals.”

Imagine him & Gray

It is no secret that Everton are in desperate need of a clinical finisher in front of goal and Frank Lampard will be hoping that the board will give him the opportunity to bring in a consistent goal-scorer over the next few weeks.

Despite a huge point earned at the Etihad yesterday, the Toffees still remain just two points clear of the bottom three with the third-worst goal tally in the entire Premier League - proving that a game-killing goal machine is desperately needed at Goodison Park.

As a result, the signing of Gyokeres would be a big addition for the Merseysiders as they endeavour to avoid another difficult relegation scrap over the second half of the season.

Over 24 Championship appearances, the £20m-rated ace - who was hailed “unbelievable” by Coventry City manager Mark Robins - has scored 12 goals, registered one assist and created three big chances as a marker of his attacking influence. Furthermore, he has averaged 1.3 key passes, 2.9 shots on goal, 1.7 successful dribbles and has won 5.6 duels per game.

Based on those numbers, Lampard could develop an unstoppable attacking partnership between the Swedish striker and Everton winger Demarai Gray as the pair could perfectly complement each other’s strengths.

Combining Gray’s pace, dribbling ability and a keen eye for a key pass into dangerous positions with Gyokeres clinical finishing and eye for goal could be deadly for opponents over the second half of the season.

Gray showed against Manchester City with a stunning goal just what he's capable of in the final third and marrying that with a more clinical striker could be just the recipe the Toffees are searching for.

With that being said, if Everton could secure the signature of the EFL star this month it could give the team the huge boost in goal contributions they are desperately searching for in order to climb the Premier League table in 2023.
