Frank Lampard has reportedly issued a claim that he wants to bring a striker to Everton…
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “I was told Lampard specifically wants to know a fair bit about whichever striker he ends up signing because he wants to have somebody that he knows he can get the best out of pretty early on.
“So, on the back of that, he pretty much wants a Premier League striker. He wants someone that’s been around the league.
“Even if they haven’t been a regular, he wants to have seen them and understand what they’re about. So I think he’ll probably look for someone that’s on the fringes already at a Premier League club.”
With the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin looming over the club – who is reportedly out for six weeks – Lampard needs to act quickly to plug this gap before his side starts to fall behind in the league.
Anthony Gordon had to deputise at centre-forward both against Chelsea and even against Aston Villa – despite Salomon Rondon returning to availability after finishing his suspension. Lampard clearly does not trust the Venezuelan, making the need for a striker all the more poignant.
Despite working hard and leading the press, the Toffees were toothless at Goodison Park and struggled to create any clear-cut chances against Lampard’s old side on the opening weekend of the season.
Not only this, but Calvert-Lewin’s absence also means they are without guaranteed goals, as during the 2020/21 season he hit the back of the net an extremely impressive 16 times in the league.
Since then, however, injuries have plagued the England international and he has struggled to put a run of games together without breaking down once again.
Lampard must act quickly, and whether it is a Premier League striker or a European prospect, his side are desperate for a focal point from which they can build their play around.
Until that person is found, the team are left in a limbo state where they will struggle for goals. They need depth, and they need it now.
