Everton could look to a Premier League rival in the hopes of maintaining survival if reports are to be believed...

What’s the latest?

That's according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who has suggested that West Ham United are open to allowing Michail Antonio to leave, and the Toffees are interested.

With Frank Lampard desperate for some added firepower, this could be a surefire way to add some Premier League experience and added reliability to challenge Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Given his age, this would likely be a short-term move intended to secure an instant turnaround rather than hold down the position for the foreseeable future.

The next Lukaku

Given the Toffees currently sit joint-bottom of the Premier League table, it could be argued that any signings would mark an improvement on Lampard's sorry squad.

Even that from the Hammers, who reside only above them on goal difference and are in similarly disastrous form; although one of which could be poised to turn that around when the two clash this weekend.

It would be a huge statement of intent from Farhad Moshiri to have secured this deal before that match, although with no signings to report as of yet, that seems unlikely.

What would make him such an attractive proposition for Lampard is his pure physicality and proficiency, which has seen the £85k-per-week machine become the Irons' all-time Premier League top scorer.

His blistering speed is paired with unprecedented strength, and despite being 32 years old he still remains a fine option. Journalist Paul Brown even outlined exactly why he remains sought after, claiming: "When he plays, he’s just a complete monster and dominates people.”

That kind of bulldozer is exactly what has been missing this season, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin having been limited to nine appearances due to injuries and Neal Maupay's slight physique.

Antonio's arrival would mark the closest thing Goodison Park has seen to a direct replacement for Everton's own all-time Premier League top scorer Romelu Lukaku.

He too was commended for his time at Goodison Park, where he scored 87 goals in 166 games in all competitions.

His inclusion struck fear into opposition defenders, but again the Jamaica international has been a similarly scary prospect, as Harry Redknapp claimed: "What a good player he’s turned out to be. What a handful he is... he is frightening. Ability, skill, he scores goals. What a threat to any defence.”

Therefore, although it may be a short-term fix, this deal represents the return of a truly outstanding and fearsome frontman for Everton once more.
