This is set to be a rather intriguing summer for Everton and Rafa Benitez.
Although he’s been promised money to spend by the Toffees board, the Spaniard could also witness a flurry of exits.
The latter now have Carlo Ancelotti in charge and he could pillage his former employers in the summer window.
That’s because according to Goal, he’s now also eyeing up a move for Everton’s Brazilian star, Richarlison.
The report suggests that Ancelotti has been in contact with the player and he is keen to be reunited with the Italian.
The ex-Everton boss personally called him during the Copa America to sound out interest.
Based on the player’s form towards the back end of last season, it’s easy to see why Everton might be willing to cash in on Richarlison.
However, Richarlison is still one of the main components of the Toffees’ attack. He scored 13 times last season and is capable of running any defence in the Premier League ragged.
He completed 1.8 dribbles per game last term which was more than another player in the Everton squad. On top of that, he was the most fouled player in the team, being brought down on 2.1 occasions per match.
With that in mind, it would be incredibly difficult to replace him. The forward’s dynamism is found in very few players at Goodison Park as the Brazil international combines speed with dazzling dribbling.
At the age of just 24, there is also a lot more to come from the former Watford man. He may have ended 2020/21 poorly but his potential is immense.
The very fact that Real Madrid are interested in signing him this summer speaks volumes.
Calvert-Lewin is the man who scores the brunt of the goals in this Everton side but without Richarlison dragging players towards him, the England international wouldn’t enjoy as much space in the final third.
He is crucial to Benitez’s chances of securing European football and to lose him would be a big setback. With that in mind, it would be a gutting blow to the supporters.
They have been crying out for a place among the continent’s elite for a while now so any chance of that diminishing will leave them frustrated.
