It seems that Everton could be ready to battle with some Premier League giants for a European striker…

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees are among the clubs who hold an interest in VfB Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin having suffered an injury last week that will see him ruled out for six weeks, Frank Lampard will be desperate to bring in reinforcements up front.

They will have to compete with both Manchester United and Chelsea however, with both also chasing the Austrian reportedly available for just £15m.

Everton need him

Desperate times call for desperate measures at Goodison Park, following their narrow opening day defeat to Chelsea.

Lampard’s side started that game with no recognised striker due to Calvert-Lewin’s injury and Salomon Rondon’s suspension, however he will be hoping to add someone with more quality than the Venezuelan if his main marksman is to have another injury-hit season.

One man who could deputise well for their hitman is the 6 foot 7 man who has impressed in Germany.

At just 25 years old, Kalajdzic’s return of six goals and two assists in just 15 Bundesliga matches makes for impressive reading.

He would offer a focal point for Everton to build their game around, which they lacked on Saturday. Although they did create some chances, Dwight McNeil and Anthony Gordon put in a few tantalising deliveries that any natural striker would have dispatched with ease.

His 2.5 shots per game also outline him as a constant goal threat for his side, despite also creating six big chances. He can use his hulking frame to both create and score, making him a wonderful solution for an Everton side that admittedly looked toothless against Chelsea.

Lacking that lethal touch, perhaps the Austrian can be as “invaluable” to Lampard as his manager Pelegrino Matarazzo claimed he was for his side.

In desperate need of a striker, it cannot be denied that reinforcements must be brought in if the Merseyside club are to avoid another frustrating season.

For just £15m, Kevin Thelwell could do much worse than signing Kalajdzic and finally bringing some consistent goal threat up front. They need a striker now, and he could fit the mould for them perfectly.
