Everton could be set to dip into the Championship for some offensive reinforcements this January…

What’s the latest?

Having been linked to him at the end of November alongside Crystal Palace and West Ham United, Dean Jones offered a fresh perspective on the Toffees’ pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres.

The Coventry City marksman has been on fire this season for his side, meriting links to the Premier League.

Jones would elaborate on them to GIVEMESPORTThere are a few others, though, even of the same sort of level that Everton are looking at as unfulfilled potential.

“I know that the lad at Coventry, Gyokeres, is somebody that they’ve got on the radar too. So, there’s something to look out for there.”

Tim Cahill repeat

By dipping into this division once more, it could draw comparisons with another frontman who they purchased back in 2004.

Signed from Millwall, Tim Cahill would go on to feature 278 times for the Merseyside club, becoming a cult hero due to his charm and tendency to score with his head despite his 5 foot 10 frame. He would bag a total of 68 goals across his eight-year spell.

David Moyes would label the Australian “a winner” in a touching tribute to the forward, claiming: “I fell in love with Tim because of his performance and his toughness and his ruggedness and his ability to take on information.”

It seems that promoting players from such a physically taxing league can often leave them with a battle-hardened play style that can aid them in their transition.

With Gyokeres, it is clear that he already boasts the technical ability to shine.

Despite being just 24 years old, the Sweden international already has 107 club goals to his name.

It seems that he has finally found his feet in English football, and is poised to only add to that tally as the seasons go on.

Having scored nine league goals in just 20 games this season, he seems poised to overcome his 17-goal haul from last year.

This is all for a side that have been marooned in mid-table since he joined on loan in 2020, a deal he would make permanent the year following.

What also ties him to Cahill is his apparent “desire and hunger to score goals”, which his manager Mark Robins has lauded on occasion.

Having admitted his side are at the “mercy of predators” in the coming transfer windows due to their financial troubles, he jokingly labelled his top striker “rubbish” in a veiled attempt to ward off suitors.

However, he would then list exactly why he will be so courted this January: “He’s not the finished article by any stretch of the imagination but he has some unbelievable ability - power, technique. He has got everything in his locker…”.

Everton have been crying out for a new talismanic figure to unite the fans and should Gyokeres boast the charisma and talent that Cahill had during his stint at Goodison Park, this could be a wonderful signing for Frank Lampard.
