It was another pulsating weekend of Premier League action with all ten teams looking to get their festive fixtures off to good start.

The game of the weekend saw Jose Mourinho's Manchester United travel to Liverpool in a bid to inflict their first defeat of the season.

Unfortunately for Mourinho who was sacked just days later, Jurgen Klopp's men put in a decent enough second half performance to help them win 3-1.

City, Spurs and Chelsea all won, but Arsenal's trip to Southampton ended in disappointment, thanks to Charlie Austin's late goal and cheeky celebration.

You know the results, here's what you missed in Gameweek 17.

Deeney's Challenge

On a wet and windy day of Premier League action, many felt that Troy Deeney's sliding tackle on Cardiff's Nathan Etheridge was ill-judged.

Neil Warnock was demanding at least a card for the Watford striker, who received nothing more than a telling off from the referee.

Lascelles' Tackle

Talking of bad tackles, Newcastle captain Jamal Lascelles could count himself lucky he stayed on the pitch after this unecessary challenge on Laurent Depoitre.

The centre-back 'chopped' down the forward with the ball already out of play when he made the challenge.

Palace Won Without Wilf

For the first time since March 2016, Crystal Palace, thanks to a brilliant goal from Luka Milivojevic won their first game without talisman Wilfried Zaha.

The Ivory Coast international is currently on the sidelines with an injury and Roy Hodgson was delighted to finally shake-off the hoodoo:

"It is nice to put that one to bed, but it has got people talking and writing more than it has got us thinking. We have known it was there, but it will be a different press conference next week."

Leicester In A Slump

Delight for Crystal Palace, meant despair for Leicester City supporters, who saw their Foxes side suffer back-to-back defeats.

That means Claude Puel's side have won just one of their last six games, their only win was against Watford at the start of the month.

Huddersfield Front Line

Huddersfield's 1-0 loss to Newcastle not only made it four games without a win, but it became another game in which a forward player has scored for the Terriers.

None of Huddersfield's ten goals this season have been scored by a striker.

Poch And Pep's Hats

Looking for a last minute Christmas present? Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola were doing their very best to tempt you into buying the new Nike beanie hats.

Unfortunately you can't buy them in either club shop!

Dier's Surgery

Eric Dier hasn't played for Tottenham since the North London derby earlier this month and for good reason.

It was announced on Sunday morning that the England midfielder has had surgery to remove his appendix and will now be out until January.

If you're going to have to have appendicitis, have it during a busy Christmas period!

Spurs Tour

Spurs fans were finally given the opportunity to see inside their new stadium on Sunday, with a fan familiarisation event.

Fans flocked to social media to show off their images of the stadium, but still they await news of when they can actually see their team in action there.

Laurent Koscielny

After seven months out with an Achilles tendon injury, Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny made a return to the Premier League at Southampton.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes, it was obvious to see the Frenchman still isn't 100% match fit.

No Striker, No Problem For Chelsea

There is no doubt Maurizio Sarri isn't exactly happy with his leading strikeforce at the moment.

The Chelsea boss didn't name a striker in his starting line-up at Brighton, Eden Hazard showed he doesn't need one as he lead the line brilliantly with an assist and a goal.

Man City's Bench

There is no doubt that Manchester City's squad is one of the best in the Europe, the quality they have outside the starting eleven is crazy.

Thanks to a busy fixture list and returning players, Pep Guardiola managed to name Raheem Sterling, John Stones, Sergio Aguero  all on his bench. Scary!

De Bruyne Back

Joining City's stellar bench was Kevin De Bruyne, named in the squad for the first time since limping off on 1st November against Fulham.

The Belgian came on as a second half substitute for Riyadh Mahrez, a gentle reminder once again of City's incredible squad.

Skipp Debut

He may not have won any trophies but you can't help but commend Mauricio Pochettino for developing the squad he has inherited.

The Spurs boss is famous for giving youth a chance and on Saturday he gave a full debut to Oliver Skipp, meaning the Argentine has now seen 13 Spurs academy graduates make their debut for the first team.

Alisson Mistake

After making an incredible save to send Liverpool through to the Champions League knock-outs in midweek, Alisson was brought back down to earth as he made a howler against Manchester United.

The Brazilian keeper spilled Romelu Lukaku's cross straight towards Jesse Lingard who tapped home.

Luckily for him, Xherdan Shaqiri's two second half goals saw them through to a 3-1 win.

Klopp said:

“We conceded that goal, but the boys wanted to do it for Allison. On the pitch it was difficult. Then we stuck together and keep on going. At half time we could adjust a few things and saw spaces. Then they changed the system from five to four at the back and the space wasn’t there. We played and played and Shaq came on and scored the goals.”

Pogba Benched

Once again Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho's was a big talking point.

The Frenchman was forced to watch the whole 90 minutes from the substitute's bench at Anfield, fuelling more speculation about their feud.

Wolves Win Again

After an incredible start back in the Premier League, October and November were a poor months for Wolves.

However a win against Bournemouth makes it three wins in a row, the first time the club has achieved three wins in the Premier League.

West Ham On A Roll

It seems that Manuel Pellegrini has finally got his West Ham team ticking and thanks to their 2-0 win over Fulham, they are on a record breaking streak.

The Hammers have now won four Premier League games in a row, the first time they have achieved this since February 2014.

Still No Clean Fulham

West Ham's win means Fulham are still yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

Claudio Ranieri, who got Leicester City's defensive line so strong, will be hoping to change that as soon as possible.

Super Leno

From one goalkeeping mistake to another, Arsenal's Bernd Leno had a shocker as he came flying out of his goal for a 'superman' style punch and totally missed it in the 85th minute.

Southampton substitute Charlie Austin was on hand to head home the eventual winner.

Drinks Voucher From Ralph

After watching his side lose at Wembley last weekend, new Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl finally got the chance to take charge of his new squad on Sunday against Arsenal.

In a bid to impress the Southampton fans, Hasenhüttl sent all season ticket holders a voucher for a free drink, nice touch.

No Handshake From Ralph

He may have quickly won over his home supporters with a free pint but Ralph Hasenhuttl wasn't in Unai Emery's good books as he forgot to shake the Arsenal boss' hand after the final whistle.

When asked why he didn't shake hands initially, the Southampton boss said:

"I had to run to my guys because they were waiting. I shook hands later and it was OK,".

"It's what I wanted to feel when I came to the Premier League, this atmosphere after the game, and to celebrate such a moment is something very special for me."

Fellaini's Shot

It is fair to say Marouane Fellaini isn't exactly the most prolific of goalscorers, especially when shooting from distance.

His effort on Sunday, not only was way off the target, he managed to knock over an unsuspecting steward, who was sat by the corner flag!

Austin Celebration

After scoring the goal to put Southampton 3-2 up at St. Mary's Stadium, Charlie Austin did everything he could to make sure his goal would be the winner.

On closer look at the striker's celebration, Austin makes sure almost every player comes up to him to celebrate his goal while stood in the corner.

Clever but sneaky time-wasting tactics from the forward.
