Now in it's 27th season the Premier League is bigger and better than ever thanks to sponsorship deals, the quality of the teams and it's coverage around the world.

Since it's inception in 1992, there have been some incredible moments that have helped it be regarded as the 'best league in the world'.

Having been born in 1992, I have grown up in the Premier League era and would always back myself in a Premier League trivia quiz, but there are some facts that I simply missed.

Whether it's who has missed the most penalties or who has won a Premier League title without playing a single game,  these 20 facts blew my mind and I'm guessing they will shock you too.

Man United's Home Record

The Red Devils have never lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford when they have been leading at half-time.

An incredible feat in 26 years since the league started, largely thanks to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Triple Threat

There are only three players who have scored, assisted and scored an own goal in the same Premier League game.

Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and Kevin Davies are those players, both Rooney and Bale achieved theirs in 2012.

Balotelli's Assist

Italian forward Mario Balotelli has been criticised for many years for his attitude on and off the pitch.

But in 2012 he assisted Sergio Aguero for Manchester City's winning goal against QPR which won them their first Premier League title.

That was Balotelli's one and only assist in his Premier League career., what a time to get it.

Ryan Giggs Sub Stat

Being the second highest in terms of Premier League appearances made, Ryan Giggs' stats are all very impressive.

He is also the player who has been substituted the most times, as he saw his number on the fourth official's board 134 times.

Most Penalty Misses

This fact you have to take with a pinch of salt, as although Alan Shearer missed 11 Premier League penalties in his career, he did score 56 of them.

Double-Footed Penalties

Talking of penalties, Bobby Zamora and Obafemi Martins have both proven themselves from the spot with both feet.

Impressive or just showing off?

West Ham's Goal Difference

In terms of Premier League years, the Hammers haven't been exactly the kind of team to score many goals, meaning they are usually mid-table or battling relegation.

In 2015/16, they achieved something they had never achieved in the Premier League, finishing the season with a positive goal difference.

Golden Oldies

Gordan Strachan is the only player born before 1960 to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, which he achieved in 1993 against Blackburn Rovers.

Young Hat-Tricks

Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku weren’t even born when the first Premier League season started.

They are the only players born after August 1992 who have bagged themselves a PL hat-trick.

Comeback Kings

During the 2001/02 season, Newcastle won 34 points from losing positions, the most by any team in any Premier League season.

Ironically, seven seasons later they were relegated from the league for the first time, with just 34 points.

James Milner's Omen

Liverpool's James Milner burst onto the scene in 2002 at the age of 16 and has been a Premier League ever present ever since.

The midfielder isn't known for scoring goals, but has bagged 48 in his career in the league and his team has never lost when he has scored.

That omen is probably why he is penalty taking duty for Liverpool.

Fall From Grace

Hull City, Bolton and Charlton have all been relegated from the Premier League in the same season they also spent at least one day at the top.

Charlton 1998/99, Bolton in 2011/12 and Hull in 2016/7.

In the nine seasons that Harry Kane has been around the first team squad at Tottenham, he has never scored in the month of August.

He's played 14 games in that time, which means his stats of 108 goals in 154 Premier League appearances is all that more impressive. In the last three seasons, the serial finisher has won two golden boots and finished 2nd behind Mo Salah, imagine if he could start the season strong!

Paul Robinson

Despite being a goalkeeper, former England star Paul Robinson has scored, assisted and won a penalty.

He also chipped in with five assists, the most by any goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Relegated Twice

Mark Robins, Steve Kabba, David Nugent and George Boyd all have the unwanted accolade of being the only four players who have played for two relegated teams in the same season.

Boyd played for both Burnley and Hull City in the 2014/15 season.

No Corners

In 2010, Chelsea visited Wigan at the JJB Stadium and not only won 6-0, the got themselves into the history books.

The game will forever known as 'the game with no corners' as neither team won a single corner in the whole 90 minutes.

An incredible achievement, especially considering all the goal mouth action!

Former Wolves boss Terry Connor is the only manager who has failed to win a single Premier League game despite at least 10 attempts.

Down there, but not relegated

During the 2014/15 season, Leicester City spent 140 days of it bottom of the table, but ended the season out of the relegation zone.

After staying in the Premier league in 2015, they went on to have a pretty decent season the following year as they won the title.

Ever Present

In that season, Wes Morgan played every minute of the 38 league games in which Leicester played. Only Cesar Azpilicueta, John Terry and Gary Pallister are the only outfield players to have also done it.

Peter Crouch's Heading

Out of his 108 goals in the Premier League, Peter Crouch has scored 50 of them with his head.

That is more than 16 of the teams who have played in the Premier League.

Heading Hat-Tricks

Salomon Rondon and Duncan Ferguson both have the accolade of being the only two players to have scored a hat-trick using just their head.

Rondon scored his versus Swansea in December 2016, emulating Ferguson's 1997 achievement against Bolton.

Non-British Team

On Boxing Day in 1999, Chelsea boss Gianluca Vialli made history by selecting the first ever non-British starting eleven.

The team consisted of Ed de Goey (Netherlands), Dan Petrescu (Romania), Emerson Thome (Brazil), Frank Leboeuf (France), Celestine Babayaro (Nigeria), Albert Ferrer (Spain), Didier Deschamps (France), Gus Poyet (Uruguay), Roberto di Matteo (Italy), Gabriele Ambrosetti (Italy), Tore Andre Flo (Norway).

The Story Of Iago Aspas

Spaniard Iago Aspas is the only player to have taken more corners than he has had shots in the Premier League.

Not exactly a good record for a striker.

Seeing Red

Being sent-off is never going to help your team, but there are three players who have seen red without touching the ball.

Keith Gillespie, Andreas Johansson and Dave Kitson (above) are the offenders.

Set-Piece Maestros

Both Wayne Rooney and Matt Le Tissier had incredible scoring records in the Premier League.

They are the only two players who have scored a hat-trick in the competition entirely from set-piece situations.

Richard Wright's Legacy

Richard Wright won two Premier League title medals during his time at Man City and Arsenal, despite only making 12 appearances.

All twelve of his appearances came with Arsenal, he actually spent four years at City without making a single Premier League starting eleven.
