Steve Howey reckons that Dusan Vlahovic would be an underwhelming alternative to Harry Kane for Manchester City supporters.

Pep Guardiola's men have been chasing the England captain all summer after the Tottenham man expressed his desire to leave the club.

However, City appear to have moved on to the Serbian after widespread reports believe that Kane has now accepted that he'll be staying in north London, appearing to end City's pursuit of him.

City got their campaign up and running by dispatching newly-promoted Norwich City on Saturday, but their three previous competitive matches prior to that were all 1-0 defeats in which Guardiola opted against starting a striker, including the Champions League final.

And according to La Repubblica, City are prepared to offer around £47m for the 21-year-old striker, who scored 21 Serie A goals for Fiorentina last season and has started this campaign with two goals in as many matches.

Despite his impressive goalscoring record in Italy, Howey told Football FanCast that he isn't convinced:

"The fans would be like, really? I know they were linked with Lewandowski. The fans would think, we've gone from Kane, one of the best strikers in the world, to an unknown."
