Sheffield United 3-2 Sheffield Wednesday (Championship 2009)

The Owls completed their first derby double for 95 years in February, results that eventually cost their neighbours automatic promotion to the Premier League. So this was revenge for the season previous for the Blades. A city of two teams witnessed a game of two halves, United’s stellar start being followed by Wednesday’s spirited comeback. Yet the winner was controversial with United’s decisive goal coming from Lewis Buxton, the Wednesday right back heading David Cotterill’s cross into his own net as Darius Henderson challenged him. Was it a foul? Brian Laws would argue it was, but a nervous bit of vengeance had at least been achieved for the Blades.
