Champions League Final Preview – Chelsea and Manchester City prepare for all-English showdown in Porto

This Saturday marks the 66th European Cup final with an all-English affair between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Both clubs did well to reach the penultimate game of this year’s competition, facing some of Europe’s elite along the way.

Chelsea’s Road to the Finalb

Despite them never being clear favourites from the get-go, according to Betway, Chelsea beat the odds after Frank Lampard’s sacking, with Thomas Tuchel guiding the club to this year’s final with a string of impressive performances.

The club topped their group after 6 games with 4 wins and 2 draws, taking them to the knockout stages to face Atletico Madrid. The Blues won 3-0 on aggregate, with them then beating Porto and Real Madrid over the next two stages.

Tuchel’s impact since joining has been immense, with them cruising through most of their Champions League games since his arrival.

Manchester City’s Road to the Final

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised through their group as winners, with 5 wins a 1 draw. The club arguably had an easier group than Chelsea, but nevertheless, they came out on top.

Knockout stage games against Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund saw some fantastic football from the Sky Blues, showing them as one of the favourites in the competition and one of the teams to beat.

The real masterclass came in the club’s semi-final against Paris Saint Germain. Youngster Phil Foden produced a real masterclass during the game, with City coming up 4-1 winners on aggregate.

Score Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Chelsea

It seems clear to us that the game will be very closely contested with both teams at the peak of their powers right now.

Current form would instantly suggest a Manchester City win, with Chelsea losing out on the final day to Aston Villa. City cruised out on the final day of the Premier League with an impressive 5-0 win over Everton.

However, the two clubs faced off not too long ago at the start of the months, with Chelsea coming out on top as 2-1 winners at the Etihad.

Despite this upper hand in their head-to-head rankings, we feel City will come out on top for the big occasion.

Everything over this past decade with City’s growth has led to this game, and with Pep Guardiola’s fifth season at the club, it seems as though now is the perfect time for City to finally lift their first-ever Champions League trophy.
