Arsenal face Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday evening with the match being an important one for both clubs.

The Gunners are looking to end another disappointing season by winning a trophy, in what could be Arsene Wenger’s final match in charge of the side with the Frenchman still yet to announce his future plans.

Their record of appearing in 20 consecutive Champions League seasons will come to an end next term as they could only finish the Premier League campaign in fifth, meaning they will instead take part in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, the Blues cruised to the Premier League title under Antonio Conte following a brilliant run of form after they had ironically been beaten 3-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates in October.

The Italian manager would love to win the double in his debut season in England, and there is even more incentive considering it is also captain’s John Terry final match for the champions and his last chance to lift a trophy for them.

Here are five key battles that will decide which team wins the most famous domestic cup competition in the world…

Per Mertesacker vs Diego Costa

With Laurent Koscielny suspended following his red card against Everton last weekend, Gabriel out with a knee injury and Shkodran Mustafi a doubt with concussion, Mertesacker could make his first start in 13 months.

The 32-year-old made his first appearance of the season as a second half substitute against the Toffees last weekend and he could face one of the toughest encounters he could possibly have against Costa.

The Blues forward has once again been in fine form for Chelsea this term and having netted 21 goals in all competitions, as well as his ability to hold the ball up and be a constant pain for defenders, he will be a real threat.

Aaron Ramsey vs N'Golo Kante

Having won his second successive Premier League title with two different clubs and having been named the PFA Player of the Year, there is no doubt that it has been an outstanding season for Kante, and it could get even better on Saturday.

The Frenchman moved to Chelsea to win trophies on a consistent basis and he has the chance to lift his second against the Gunners.

While Kante has been brilliant, it has been something of an up-and-down season for Ramsey.

The Gunners midfielder has struggled to replicate the form he has shown in recent seasons, although he has looked more comfortable in the 3-4-2-1 formation that Arsene Wenger has deployed in recent weeks, and he will hope to get the better of Kante in the middle of the park.

Rob Holding vs Eden Hazard

While Holding has looked more than comfortable in the three-man defence in recent weeks, it still has to be remembered that he is just 21 years of age and has made just 17 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners following his move from Bolton Wanderers last summer.

He certainly faces a huge battle at Wembley on Saturday as he looks set to come up against Hazard, who has been back to his brilliant best for the Premier League champions this season having scored 17 goals and provided a further seven assists in all competitions.

With his pace, dribbling and ability to turn on a sixpence, Holding will need to be more aware than usual and will need to ensure he doesn’t dive in and commit himself on too many occasions, otherwise the Belgian could make him look silly.

Alexis Sanchez vs Cesar Azpilicueta

Once again, these two players have been two of the best in the Premier League this season and it will be an interesting battle between the duo at Wembley.

While Sanchez has once again shown his creativity and ability in front of goal after scoring 29 goals and providing a further 19 assists in 50 matches in all competitions for the Gunners this season, Azpilicueta has been a rock at the back.

The Spaniard has adapted brillianly to the three-man defence after Antonio Conte adopted a 3-4-3 formation earlier in the campaign and not too many attackers get past him.

Blues fans will hope that is the case again on Saturday.

Danny Welbeck vs Gary Cahill

Arsene Wenger has to make a choice between Welbeck and Olivier Giroud up top and he could select the former.

The French manager has rotated between the two in recent weeks but he may feel that the pace and movement of the former Manchester United man could be more of a threat against a strong defence on Saturday.

One of the key parts of that sturdy backline has been Cahill, who will once again captain the side if John Terry is named on the substitutes’ bench.

The England international has impressed this term and he will know Welbeck well from the their time together with the Three Lions.
