HYS: Should Man City match up against Chelsea’s 3-4-3?

Matching up has become one of the vogue tactical trends in the Premier League, which is why we saw so many sides move out of their comfort zone and employ 3-4-3 formations against Chelsea last season.

Although the vast majority fell short in cancelling out the Blues, the situation changes somewhat when you’re talking about high-quality opponents.

Take Tottenham Hotspur, for example; last season, they ended Chelsea’s 13-game winning run in January by matching up against their London rivals in a famous 2-0 victory at White Hart Lane that owed much to winning the key battles out wide and in central midfield.

So far this season, Pep Guardiola has fluctuated between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3 on the most-part.

But the Manchester City manager always likes to have a tactical ploy up his sleeve for high-profile games and for the Premier League clash with Chelsea this Saturday, matching up could well be the trump card that leaves the Blues unstuck at Stamford Bridge.
