There can be no doubt Dele Alli is amongst the most promising young players in world football. If the Tottenham sensation isn’t a world-class attacking midfielder already, it seems only a matter of time before he naturally ascends to that status.
But the 22-cap England international just hasn’t quite been himself this season. He’s not scored in the Premier League since the end of August and he’s appeared somewhat distracted, coasting against lesser opposition and drawing negative press for a dive against Burnley and that finger flexed towards Kyle Walker.
At the same time, Tottenham’s most impressive results this season have come in the Champions League, amid Alli’s absence after being suspended in Europe last season. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but not having the 21-year-old in the team has allowed Tottenham to take a more defensive, counter-attacking approach that’s proved highly effective.
Tottenham face their biggest test since Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend with Liverpool travelling to Wembley. So, Lilywhites fans, would you leave Alli – who Transfermarkt value at £40.5million – out of the starting XI this weekend?
