This week our Fixture in Focus here at FootballFanCast is a cracker: Southampton vs. Manchester United in the EFL Cup Final.

Although the League Cup has often been belittled and dubbed the FA Cup’s runt sibling, there’s actually a popular narrative that it’s becoming the one to win of the two nowadays, with the rewards the same and the level of football, on the down low, actually better in the often derided competition.

This weekend’s game has much riding on it, too. Southampton have the chance to win their first piece of major silverware in most of their fans’ living memory and take the next step on their upward trajectory, while Jose Mourinho will be desperate to get a first trophy in the cabinet as the boss at Old Trafford – he loved the League Cup while Chelsea manager.
