Marouane Fellaini continually divides opinion, largely loathed by Manchester United fans yet picked frequently by the club’s last three managers, including current gaffer Jose Mourinho.
Indeed, the Belgium international is cumbersome, inconsistent on the ball and awkward on the eye, but it’s difficult to dispute how effective he is when in top form – his towering and gangling frame making him a virtually unplayable force in the engine room.
Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday was one such occasion, as Fellaini used his physicality to boss the middle of the park and keep one of the best midfielders in the world quiet in the form of the Premier League pace setters’ N’Golo Kante.
Fellaini finished the match with two created chances, three successful aerial duels, four tackles, four interceptions and 48 passes to his name, and his influence on the result has not gone unnoticed.

The 29-year-old posted about the win on Twitter and the responses show just how much opinions of him amongst the United faithful have changed over the last few months…
@Fellaini Well played. Controlled the midfield with the other two. Kante looked out of his depth.
