With Nathaniel Clyne sidelined for the next few months, two Liverpool youngsters are essentially battling it out for the right-back slot in the starting XI – Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Both have performed well when called upon this season. 18-year-old Alexander-Arnold scored a superb free kick against Hoffenheim in Champions League qualifying in a testament to the attacking instincts required from full-backs in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Likewise, Joe Gomez has come into the side for their last two Premier League clashes, playing an important role in clean sheets over Crystal Palace and Arsenal and even grabbing an assist in the 4-0 demolition of the north Londoners.
With that in mind and a huge Premier League clash against Manchester City on the horizon, we asked Liverpool fans earlier this week to vote for who they think should start on Saturday – Alexander-Arnold or the 20-year-old.
And it was the 6 foot 2 Gomez who won our poll with an impressive 63% of the vote. But will he be enough to stop City’s rampant attacking cast Reds fans? Let us know by commenting below…
