Revealed: Majority of Man United fans want Ashley Young to continue at left-back vs Liverpool

Ashley Young has proved somewhat of a revelation for Manchester United at left-back this season.

Traditionally a winger by trade but now 32 years of age, Young has proved he can still be an important member of United’s squad by filling what has very much been a problem position for Jose Mourinho since becoming Old Trafford gaffer.

While the Portuguese has appeared unconvinced by Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian, Young’s form this season has seen him emerge as an inspired choice at No.3 in recent weeks, grabbing an assist against Crystal Palace last time out.

But Liverpool are very much a different animal to the Premier League’s bottom-placed side. They offer far more in attack and Young will find himself in a straight-up battle with the Reds’ most in-form attacking player – right winger Mohamed Salah, who has four goals in six Premier League starts so far this season.

With that in mind, we asked United fans earlier this week whether Mourinho should opt for a more defensive alternative on Saturday. But according to our poll, 54% of Red Devils supporters think the 30-cap international is still the right choice for the Anfield visit.
