Unlike most scoreless draws, Liverpool and Manchester United's clash on Saturday will live long in the memory - but for all the wrong reasons. Neither manager saw fit to take the initiative in an embarrassing display of un-ambition, which was reflected by the performances on the pitch.

That being said, credit must be given where its due and there was at least one player who looked to have some impact on the scoreline, all the more impressively despite the fact he entered the match amid a run of poor form.

Indeed, Roberto Firmino just wasn't himself in the four games prior to the Northwest derby last weekend and even found himself benched for the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, Daniel Sturridge taking his place at the spearhead of the attack instead.

But following the international break, the 16-cap Brazilian was back to something near his busy best, continually finding space in the left channel and relentlessly trying to conjure up a moment of magic to break up what was an exceptionally uneventful game.

That saw Firmino create the most chances of any player on the pitch, five, take the joint-most shots at goal and complete the second-most dribbles. In a testament to his hard work as well, the South American also weighed in with two tackles before being subbed off late on.

It wasn't quite enough to get Liverpool over the line but Firmino did more than any other player in attempting to break the deadlock - and the 26-year-old looks ready for another big clash with Tottenham this weekend.

It's just a shame his team-mates, the opposition and the managers didn't approach the game with the same belief and ambition.
