Fat Barry’s Bets – Carling Cup special

FFC resident bookie Fat Barry is feeling in generous mood and is offering a 2nd helping of predictions this week. He has examined the odds for the Carling Cup semi finals and offered you some top tips for this week of cup football.

Can Spurs finally overcome the Gunners or was the first leg their big chance? It should be all over after Spurs' excellent display in the first leg but the game is still alive and this could come back to haunt them. Expect Spurs to fly out of the blocks and a goal in the first 15 minutes at 13/8 looks worth a punt.

If Spurs don't score early they will undoubtedly become edgy and nervous and the longer the game goes on with the scores level, the more I would fancy Arsenal to win. Having said all that, I do expect Spurs to score early and Robbie Keane at 6/1 for the 1st goal looks excellent value. If Spurs go on to score a second they will run out comfortable winners.

But Spurs are still poor defensively and that, added with everything these occasions bring, means anything other than a 2 goal lead at half time will make it 50/50 at best for them to go through. I believe home advantage will be the deciding factor and they will do enough in the first half to sneak through 5/4 in 90 minutes or, for the less brave, 4/6 to qualify.

This will be a far less attractive game and not one I suspect for the football purist – and chances will be at a premium. This will suit Chelsea and I expect them to sit in and keep it tight playing for a draw. Arteta apart, I don't believe Everton have the tactical nous to break Chelsea down and if Avram Grant's men deal with the threat of Arteta, I can't see there being many other players to worry them.

I think Andy Johnson is too one-dimensional and will be dealt with comfortably by the excellent Carvalho and co. I was wondering where Chelsea's goals were going to come from until I found out that Anelka was not cup tied and first goal scorer at 5/1 to open his Chelsea account looks very good value.

If Everton are to score first take Cahill to get it 15/2. Take Chelsea to win the match 11/8 and we should see a Chelsea Tottenham final. 11/10 on Chelsea to win the cup is also worth taking up.
