Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey wonders whether the ‘new Patrick Viera' has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.
Blaise Matuidi is set to move to Arsenal in a £5m move to Arsenal, according to reports.
The Daily Mail is suggesting that Arsene Wenger is going to be forced to move for the Saint-Etienne midfielder as cover for the injured Cesc Fabregas.
The Arsenal Captain is expected to be out for three weeks, meaning he will miss Saturday evening's game against Man United, and Wenger, who has been linked with a move for Matuidi all summer, will see this as the perfect opportunity to finish the club's transfer activity.
Arsenal favourite and current Saint-Etienne sporting director Damien Comolli has ruled out a sale for the French midfielder who has been capped at U18, U19 and U21 level, so it would be a great coup for the Gunners to force a sale from the former Spurs man.
In July Matuidi told The Sun: "Playing for Arsenal would be fantastic but I can't say anything about that yet.
"Everyone knows their wonderful style of football."
Matuidi is, as is always the case, being dubbed the new Patrick Viera by many which should counter the shock that Wenger may actually be willing to spend a bit of money.
Felipe Melo was Wenger's first choice signing as the club looked to bolster their squad but they were unprepared to match Juventus' £18m bid for the Brazilian earlier in the summer.
Wenger will need cover in January when Song departs for the African Cup of Nations and with the transfer window closing next week and news of Cesc's injury, will it force Wenger's hand in the market.
For £5m you cannot go wrong these days and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he could go on to be a big hit.
