There was a time when Martin Jol was at the helm that Tottenham acquired an array of centre midfielders, which left pundits, journalists and most supporters bemused in equal measures. It appears to be a trend that has revisited N17 in the past few months, not so much in the central midfield area, but at full back.

Tottenham have a fair old roster with Bale, Hutton, Corluka, Assou-Ekotto and while the summer saw the departures of both Gunter and Chimbonda who seeked pastures new Tottenham looked to readdress the loss by purchasing the two Kyle’s, Naughton and Walker, from Sheffield United in a deal which saw the latter loaned back for a season to gain experience.

The deal seemed a strange one at the time, considering the amount of cover the club at full back and although Naughton can play right midfield as well, he is yet to be given an opportunity even in Lennon’s absence.

Whilst it made sense to send Walker back on loan, given his relative inexperience, Kyle Naughton has only made one appearance in the first team as a late sub. It will be extremely difficult to question Harry Redknapp’s judgment, considering how well Tottenham have performed to date, but I do question whether Naughton is really benefitting from the odd reserve friendly that the club organise and whether a loan move would be of great benefit to the player and subsequently Tottenham. I always feel that with young players the momentum of playing regularly is extremely important, especially given the giant strides he was making for the Blades last season. Being a Sheff Utd fan I may be slightly biased, but I really think he is a better option than Corluka and Hutton at right back and David Bentley on the right wing in Lennon’s absence; Naughton is an absolute class act and I don’t think Tottenham fans have had the opportunity to appreciate how good a player Kyle is.

So what is the view of Tottenham fans and do you agree that Naughton and the club would benefit from him going out on a loan until the end of the season, or is he better off as he is training with the first team and the odd friendly? There isn’t a Sheffield United fan I know that wouldn’t take him back on loan and I can only hope Redknapp will agree to it.
