Football FanCast columnist Rob Facey wonders what the future holds at Old Trafford for Anderson.
Ji Sung Park is set to sign a new contract at Old Trafford which intensifies the speculation surrounding his team mate Anderson.
Park, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the season, started preliminary talks at the end of last season, according to the Daily Telegraph, and Sir Alex Ferguson clearly thought that the South Korean's attitude and performances in the pre-season warranted a new deal.
Anderson, on the other hand, is said to have complained to Fergie about being left out of the Community Shield squad but was left in no uncertain terms that he owes Man United and not the other way around.
Park's committed and focused displays mean he is often a surprise starter in the latter stages of the Champions League. Anderson, on the other hand, had a total nightmare against Barcelona in the final in May. As a result Ferguson has voiced concerns over his failure to realise his potential.
Michael Carrick, also rumoured to have fallen out with Fergie, is an infinitely better player and Darren Fletcher has really come into his own. His importance was noted when he missed the Barcelona game through suspension. Anderson was not a patch on him.
Questions have been asked about whether he has what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford for some time now and it seems as if, by offering Park a new deal, that Ferguson has set down the marker.
Anderson has only played an hour this season against Burnley and has failed to score since moving from Porto for £18m two years ago. Hardly the most encouraging stats, are they?
With Ronaldo gone there is room for someone to make a name for themselves. Nani is in a similar position to Anderson, but the question remains: Are they good enough?
