It is very hard to criticise Sir Alex Ferguson given what he has achieved for Manchester United, however I find myself disagreeing with him somewhat with regards to his call for togetherness at Old Trafford and hoping that the mutiny towards the Glazer’s control will die a death as it is playing into our opposition’s hands. I beg to differ and feel that Fergie is missing the point.

“The family of Manchester United is under pressure as a result of all the issues surrounding the ownership and financial situation of our club,

“Some of our fans are clearly unhappy with our financial position, but we mustn't allow the situation to become divisive.

“The danger is that we could be presented as being split, which would be harmful and inaccurate, because I believe the vast majority of United fans are behind us and appreciate the importance of standing together in support of the team.

“I could see our opponents rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of watching us fall out among ourselves if we don't think carefully about what we are doing.

“We must not lose our focus - which is about building a strong football team that will win trophies.

“That is what we are about, or at least, it should be.” United Review

Ferguson has transformed this football club, brought an unprecedented amount of success to it that has seen the club rise to become the biggest in the country and arguably in the top three in Europe. I ask the question as to how long that will exist once Fergie has gone. The point is that Fergie’s legacy and our long term future is far from secure with the way that the Glazers are running the club and that is why we are protesting against it. It is alright Ferguson suggesting that the aim has always been at United to build successful teams that can challenge for trophies; I agree Sir Alex, but how can we be assured of that when there is no money in the bank and there are no guarantees that you will be at the helm after the next couple of years. It is the future and livelihood of our football club that we are worried about at the moment, so why should we supporters be expected to stay quiet, especially when our hard earned cash goes some way to keeping the club ticking over and not to mention help line the Glazers pockets.

Don’t get me wrong I understand Ferguson’s plea was genuine and understand how negativity on the terraces can rub off the players, but he should give us a lot more credit than he is and should know that the club and the team is the most important thing with us and we wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise this. The protest is the secondary issue among supporters when the game is on as was highlighted yesterday when the protest chants only came out in force once we were sure the win was in the bag. We will never do anything that will be of detriment to the team; we just want to ensure that the future and longevity of the legacy that Fergie has created will remain long after he has gone.
