When Gianfranco Zola refers to you as “King Midas” you know you’re on top of your game. Rooney is in the form of his life and he’s in a class of his own.

Everything he touches turns to gold and the United striker can do no wrong. Every aspect of what he does at the moment is faultless and his talent is unprecedented within the Premier League.

If there was any flaw with Rooney’s game as the season kicked off it was his heading. At just 5ft 9in, he was never going to have the greatest aerial presence of a centre forward but looking at the goals he’s scored of late its testament to his commitment to perfect every aspect of his game.

Over the summer United striker Wayne Rooney practiced intensively to improve his heading capabilities.

The 24 year old from Liverpool has been on the training ground religiously trying to improve his aerial ability and given his recent clutch of goals that practice is beginning to pay dividend.

Rooney is arguable the world’s best player without doubt arguable the world’s best striker, he’s in the form of his life and there is now nothing the former Everton man doesn’t have in his locker. A deadly touch, a powerful shot, skill, speed, power, heading and above all else durability.

He’s thriving in the lone striker role, a role many top strikers struggle in and he’s responded to his manager’s request for more goals – goals that are coming from left right and centre, both with the use of his feet and his head.

The England striker paid tribute to the crossing ability of Antonio Valencia, with the form Nani’s in United’s new signing has been out of favour of late but with the Portuguese winger suspended Valencia has proved once again why he is worthy of taking over from Ronaldo on the

United right hand side.

Ferguson brought Rooney from Everton for a fee in excess of £25m, he’d already displayed the potential to achieve the greatest success but at the time who would predict the player he would evolve into.

As we head to South Africa 2010, he has the unenviable task of carrying the nation’s hopes on his shoulders; one can only anticipate he doesn’t burn out come the end of the season.

At the moment everything he touches turns to goals and with 23 already to his name, he’s poised to make Premier League history if he can continue performing until the end of the season. I for one predict Rooney to continue to excel and tip him for player of the year.
