Chelsea’s £200million transfer target Lionel Messi has finally come out to play down speculation of his potential departure from Barcelona despite rumours suggested he was on the verge of a switch to Stamford Bridge, Daily Mail reports.
After his side overcame title rivals Atletico Madrid with a 3-1 victory, the 27-year-old revealed that all the news surrounding his exit was false and that nobody has been in contact with any Premier League side.
He said: “I have not laid down any conditions for me to stay at this club and neither do I have any intention of leaving. I have heard stories about my father already having spoken to Chelsea and Manchester City but it is not true.”
The Argentina international is said to have a strained relationship with his manager Luis Enrique and was even linked to an exit if the club didn’t replace him.
However, Messi revealed that it was all false and even took the time to clear the air regarding previous conflicts with other teammates and staff many people seemed to believed were also true.
“I hear so many things about me. It has been claimed in the past that I have had a bad relationship with [Pep] Guardiola, [Samuel] Eto’o, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, with Bojan [Krkic] and even that I had got rid of a lot of people. It is not true. And it is not good for people to look for rivalry between me and the coach.
“I am painted as the one who runs the club but I am just a like any other player in the dressing room. I don’t take the decisions. And I don’t decide who takes the decisions.”
