Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani has revealed that he was actually close to leaving the club this summer amid interest from Arsenal, according to report from the Metro.
The Gunners were however the front-runners for his signature after reports emerged suggesting that club manager Arsene Wenger was already in negotiations to secure a £45million deal for the Uruguay international.
But talks failed to come to fruition, which resulted in Cavani staying in France for at least another season.
And the 28-year-old claims that he had opportunities to depart, but feels that PSG are currently the right club for his ambitions.
“Many transfer opportunities presented themselves,” he told French publication Le Journal du Dimanche.
“But PSG has always trusted me. This is the club who can give me what is better.
“If it could happen like in the second half of the season, with very good results that make me want to continue on this path.”
The former Napoli star nicknamed ‘El Matador’, Cavani made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring an impressive 31 goals last season.
