Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has praised the contribution of goalkeeper Michel Vorm during Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Barnsley in the EFL Cup third round.

Vorm made just his 33rd Spurs appearance during the League Cup fixture, and the 33-year-old put in a solid display between the sticks.

The 15-time Netherlands international was called into action early in the second period to keep out a strike from Barnsley's Ike Ugbo, who looked certain to find the back of the net.

Dele Alli's strike 25 minutes from time ultimately secured the win for Tottenham, but Pochettino has hailed Vorm for keeping an all-important clean sheet at Wembley.

Pochettino told Tottenham's official website:

"First, I want to congratulate Barnsley, they defended well and it was so tough but I thought the performance was good and we dominated the game.

“Michel Vorm was fantastic in the first action of the second half because that save was fantastic and he is a top, top goalkeeper.”

Vorm, who is valued at £4m by transfermarkt.co.uk, joined Tottenham in the summer of 2014 off the back of three impressive seasons with Swansea City.

The goalkeeper has only made 10 Premier League appearances over the last three campaigns, however, due to the presence of Hugo Lloris at the London club.
