Southampton have rejected an £8million bid from Liverpool for star striker Shane Long, according to reports from the Mirror.
The Saints have just signed Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers in a £4million deal last week, which will add more competition for starting places at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
This has resulted in Long and teammate Graziano Pelle linked with an exit, with the Reds submitting an early bid in an attempt to lure the former to Anfield.
However, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is keen on keeping the Republic of Ireland international, who has scored eight goals so far this term.
The rejected bid could therefore mean that Pelle is set to leave the club this month, with Serie A giants Juventus extremely interested in the Italy international.
The former Feyenoord attacker only has 18 months left on his current contract, and Juve can use this to their advantage when trying to secure a January deal.
