At the moment, when Diego Costa's name comes to mind, the first word that is likely to follow is controversy.

The Chelsea striker's future remains up in the air, but the betting odds are currently favouring a move to AC Milan.

The Spaniard has made it clear numerous times that he only wants to join his former club Atletico Madrid, but the La Liga outfit cannot register players until January 2018 due to a transfer embargo.

Costa has been very outspoken regarding the dispute that he has with Chelsea; firstly telling the Daily Mail that manager Antonio Conte kicked him out of the club by text message, then criticising the club in an interview with ESPN Brasil.

The 28-year-old expressed concerns that the Premier League champions are pricing him out of a return to Atletico, where he spent four years of his career before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2014.

It looks unlikely that Costa will be welcomed back into the team by Conte after the Italian burst into laughter during a press conference when a reporter claimed that the striker has accused the club of treating him like a criminal.

According to the bookies, BetVictor have AC Milan as favourites at 4/1 to nab Costa's signature before the end of the transfer window, while Everton are next in line at 6/1.

Both clubs have been named in the gossip pages as potential suitors, but mainly for loan arrangements rather than permanent deals.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has made it clear to the media that he wants to add another striker to his squad.

Costa has not yet returned to London, and with just seven days to go before the window slams shut, the striker's future is still shrouded in doubt.
