Qatari club Al-Gharafa SC have confirmed via their Twitter account that they have come to an agreement with Rangers, allowing Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha to make the switch to Ibrox.

The news comes after almost a month of uncertainty about the manager's position at Ibrox after Mark Warburton left in acrimonious circumstances.

It's a big boost for supporters ahead of what is a vital derby clash against Celtic on Sunday, although caretaker manager Graeme Murty is expected to be in the dug out for that one.

Caixinha has had spells managing in Qatar, Portugal, Mexico alongside coaching spells in Saudi Arabia. His greatest successes as manager came at Mexican side Santos Laguna where he won a league title and a national cup.

The Scottish Sun had reported earlier on Thursday that Caixinha was due to be confirmed as Rangers boss on Friday and the latest news from Qatar would certainly suggest that timetable is on track.

Will it usher in an new era of success at Ibrox? That of course remains to be seen but it's sure to be an interesting time in Scottish football as they look to close the gap on Celtic.
