Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas has ruled out a move for Porto left back Alvaro Pereira in January as he has been impressed with youngster Ryan Bertrand at Stamford Bridge according to talkSPORT.
The Blues had a bid rejected for Pereira in the summer but were widely expected to make another move in January. However AVB has been so impressed with Bertrand in his appearances this season that he has dismissed any chance of raiding his former club for their talented wing back.
Bertrand has made a few appearances in the Carling Cup this season and has done enough to prevent becoming third choice left back at the West London Club. The London-born wing came through the ranks at Gillingham and Chelsea but has had to bide his time for first team opportunities having made the most of no less than seven loan deals in four years.
Chelsea manager Villas Boas said: “We decided not (to bid for Pereira again), based on prices and because we are not looking – we are pretty satisfied with what we’ve got.
“Ryan Bertrand has shown fantastically good levels of understanding and talent at left-back and Ashley Cole is continuing to perform fantastically well too.”
