Despite the huge attacking talent United has, their lack of any real world class centre-backs looks to once again come back to haunt them.

Van Gaal opted to use the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, as well as newest addition Radamel Falcao from the start as the trio were supported by Ander Herrera, Angel Di Maria, and Daley Blind.

However, their three goals were simply not enough after a host of defensive errors eventually cost them the game as their manager played down any defensive problems in regards to Evan’s latest injury.

He said: “He got a kick. I don’t know how bad it is. We have to wait and see. He’s on crutches,

“I think Shaw shall be fit enough to play and Rojo and Smalling can play. We can manage.”
