Arsenal 1-0 Swansea City – Match Review

Andriy Arshavin scored the only goal for Arsenal to hand them their first Premier League win of the season at the expense of Swansea City. The Russian struck the winner in the first half and had Swans keeper Michael Vorm to thank after he attempted to throw the ball out to Angel Rangel only for it to hit defenders back and fall kindly to Arshavin who snapped up the opportunity with open arms to lift the Emirates gloom.

The win will come as huge relief to manager Arsene Wenger who was under intense pressure after the humiliating 8-2 thrashing they took at Manchester United two weeks ago. Whilst it wasn’t the greatest performance from the Gunners  it was certainly a step in the right direction with deadline day signings Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker playing their part in the win.

Despite manager Brendan Rodgers’ absence  from the dugout after the death of his father his side competed well for much of the game but just couldn’t manage to find the net with Scott Sinclair having their best opportunity when his free kick grazed the top of the bar just after the break. Danny Graham also had an opportunity to snatch a point in injury time but blazed his effort over leaving them pointless and still searching for their first league goal of the season.
