Arsenal have reached an agreement with Villarreal to sign Manchester United centre-back target Gabriel Paulista after the La Liga side accepted a £15million bid, Express reports.
The 24-year-old also received late interest from Louis van Gaal as he searches for some extra defensive reinforcements in hopes of strengthening his struggling back line.
Like United, the Gunners have also been in search of a central defender with Arsene Wenger likely to sign Paulista ahead of his Premier League rivals.
The Spanish club’s manager, Marcelino Garcia Toral has confirmed interest from Wenger and revealed that if everyone agrees to the deal, the club will also have to accept the offer.
“If both Gabriel Paulista and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept.”
His potential addition to the squad will be a huge lift for their manager because the Gunners only have two first choice centre-backs available for selection, the pair being Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Once the details of the proposed transfer is agreed upon, all Paulista has to do is wait for his work permit application to go through in order to finalize the switch because the Brazilian doesn’t hold an EU passport.
