Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to look elsewhere for a new centre-back, after Winston Reid is believed to be nearing a contract extension with West Ham United, Daily Mail reports.
The 26-year-old was tipped to leave the club in summer after refusing to sign a new deal, but could make a u-turn after successful talks.
Reid, whose contract will expire at the end of the season, has also been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months, with all the interested parties ready to sign him on a free transfer.
However, the Hammers board is said to have offered him an improved contract, a factor that could lead him to extending his stay at Upton Park.
The decision to keep hold of one of their star defenders would surely delight manager Sam Allardyce, as he continues his fight to reward West Ham with European football.
Brendan Rodgers was even close to signing him for £6.5million in the January window so that the Reds can avoid going head-to-head with other clubs looking to capitalise on his availability, but a transfer to materialise.
